Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card

Meh. Add this to the list of books I fail to understand; that is, I believe I comprehend the themes; I just fail to understand the general acclaim. The nastiness of school combined with the creation of a band of loyal followers has been done to death in children's fiction. The sense of exceptionalism and isolation can be found within any narcissist or anyone ostracised in school. The "deep" themes are similar to Only You Can Save Mankind /Johnny and the Dead, but the latter have the benefit of being written by the peerless Pratchett rather than the bigoted Card. Some day I'll reread it...maybe then I'll grasp what others see in it.
